Argo Tractors: cutting-edge made in Italy production conquers the world market

Alberto Morra, a Member of the Argo Tractors Management Committee

Argo Tractors, a global leader in agricultural mechanisation, is a symbol of innovative production. The entire range of Landini and McCormick tractors stands out for its advanced technological development, superior performance, automotive-grade comfort, and increasingly connected digital services. At the core of every tractor is the distinctive Made in Italy hallmark.

To appreciate Argo Tractors’ production efficiency, one only needs to visit one of the group’s six factories in Reggio Emilia, with its headquarters in Fabbrico. “This is where our story began, back in 1884,” explains Alberto Morra, a Member of the Argo Tractors Management Committee. “Today, it remains the heart of a multinational company that, in addition to producing tractors, stands out for its manufacturing and commercial integration, as well as its top-notch technical assistance, spare parts distribution, and cutting-edge digital solutions. With a presence in over 100 countries, Argo Tractors guarantees impeccable service tailored to meet every customer’s needs.

Production Director Camillo Veneri

The tractor range spans from 49 to over 310 horsepower, offering a continuously evolving product that demands state-of-the-art production processes. That’s why we prioritise enhancing our employees’ skills,” explains Production Director Camillo Veneri. “Argo Tractors has established its own Factory School, where experienced production technicians train new recruits to uphold our excellent quality standards.”.

The production process begins in the Mechanical Machining department, where the cast iron and steel castings are processed. These components supply 80% of the axle and transmission parts required by the assembly lines. Two assembly lines are dedicated to transaxle construction, which undergoes rigorous quality control before being sent to the centralised painting facility. From there, the process continues with the assembly of the electrical system, the cab, and the bonnet. At this stage, the technicians update the electronic control units and configure the specific parameters for each tractor based on the customer’s requirements.

Equally critical is the testing phase, which spans several stages, culminating in the test track, where each tractor is subjected to a controlled stress cycle lasting approximately 90 minutes before being certified as conforming.

Operating within a sector closely tied to the agri-food chain, Argo Tractors embraces a tangible commitment to “environmental sustainability”. This commitment is evident in its production practices, including the exclusive use of water-based paints, the implementation of microfiltration systems for the cooling oils, in order to reduce the volume of waste oils requiring disposal, and the installation of over 3,000 solar panels, generating an annual output of 2,200 MWh.

“What inspires us,” concludes Alberto Morra, “are passion and innovation, the two driving forces that have made us ambassadors of Made in Italy quality and proud members of the Motor Valley association. Keeping pace with the times is one of our greatest challenges, which is why we continue to invest in advanced mechatronics projects and world-class production processes.”
